Model confidence (pLDDT)

The mean pLDDT of this model is 94.2 (very high overall). pLDDT is AlphaFold's per-residue confidence score from 0 to 100. In MolViewer, choose the B-factor color scheme to color the model by pLDDT, because AlphaFold stores it in the B-factor column.

Function

Alpha subunit of the heterotrimeric guanine nucleotide-binding protein (G protein) that transduces signals from the G protein-coupled photoreceptor rhodopsin (RHO). Essential for normal RHO-mediated light perception in retinal rod photoreceptors (PubMed:22190596). Functions as a GTPase, cycling between an active GTP-bound state and an inactive GDP-bound state. Under dim light conditions, photoactivated RHO promotes GDP release and GTP binding. In its active state, GNAT1 stimulates downstream effectors, including rod cGMP-phosphodiesterase (PDE6) complex, to mediate the phototransduction cascade (By similarity). Activation of the PDE6 complex occurs through binding and repositioning of the…

Subunit structure

Heterotrimeric G proteins are composed of alpha, beta and gamma subunits. The alpha chain contains the guanine nucleotide-binding site. Interacts with RHO; interaction promotes GDP release and GTP binding (By similarity). Interacts with the PDE6 heterotetrameric complex; two GNAT1-GTP molecules bind both the catalytic core (PDE6A and PDE6B) and the inhibitory PDE6G subunits, inducing…
